Technical Field [0001] The present invention relates to a hinge comprising

The invention also relates to a box comprising two parts, typically a bottom and a cover, pivoting relative to one another and comprising at least two hinges meeting the above characteristics.
STATE OF THE ART Many types of hinges, invisible or not, have been known for a long time and in connection with a large number of applications. For example, in the field of boxes, it is known in particular the use of flat hinges or cylindrical hinges to assemble two parts of the box, typically a bottom and a cover, so that they can pivot one relatively to the other.
[0004] FIG. 1 shows a photo of an example of a cylindrical hinge commonly available on the market and meeting the characteristics set out above. Although they are made of metal, these hinges are produced in very large series and have a reasonable purchase price.
However, when it comes to assembling a bottom and a cover for a box in the high-end, for example when the box is a case for piece of jewelry, fine jewelry or timepieces range, such a case being typically made at least partially of wood and having a relatively heavy cover, a conventional hinge is not fully satisfactory. Indeed, a hinge of this type exerts no restraint on the cover which implies that, if a user releases the cover from a position corresponding to a large opening, it will fall on the bottom with force and possibly make a noise unsuitable in reference to user expectations in the high-end segment.
Other hinges are known which have damping mechanisms. However, these hinges are generally more bulky and / or less discreet in appearance than the cylindrical hinges which have just been described, and are not very suitable for the type of application mentioned above.
Disclosure of the invention A main object of the present invention is to provide an alternative construction hinge to those which have just been mentioned and which meets the requirements of applications in the high-end segment, in particular an aesthetic discretion. and a high perceived quality, both in construction and in operation. Of course, the hinge according to the present invention can also be implemented in relation to applications which are not in the high-end segment without departing from the scope of the invention.
To this end, the present invention relates more particularly to a hinge meeting the characteristics stated above and characterized in that the male member has two machining operations in its connecting portion, each of which is located opposite one connecting portions of the female member, or by the fact that the female member comprises two machining operations, each of which is carried out in one of the connecting portions, opposite the connecting portion of the male member, each of the machining defining a housing for a metal washer providing the interface between the male and female members.
The conventional approach, in terms of hinges in general, is either to reduce friction as much as possible between the male and female organs, sometimes by interposing one or more washers made of low friction material like Teflon (registered trademark), or to control the way in which the hinge functions, by adding to the male and female organs an additional device making it possible, for example, to cushion the closing of the hinge, at the cost of a markedly increased construction complexity. . The Applicant has chosen here to try a bold gamble by interposing a metal washer between the connecting portions of the male and female organs, themselves made of metal. Such a construction makes it possible to control the way in which the hinge will close thanks to an increase in friction which is generally desired.

Thanks to these characteristics, an improved control of the operation of the hinge is possible, this operation being notably smoother, thus giving a high quality impression to a user handling the hinge according to the invention.
Advantageously, it can be provided that each of the machining operations has a shape substantially complementary to the shape of the washer which is associated with it, such that each of the washers fulfills the role of a cover making it possible to retain the fat in the corresponding machining.
Thus, a long service life of the hinge according to the invention is ensured as well as a spacing between services which would aim to add fat.
According to a preferred embodiment, each of the connecting portions of the male and female members is made of steel, the washers also being of steel.
In general, we can also provide that each of the main portions of the male and female organs has a generally substantially cylindrical shape.
We can also provide that each of the main portions of the male and female organs comprises a clamping device intended to cooperate with a body to ensure the maintenance of the corresponding main portion.
According to a preferred embodiment, the machining operations are provided on the connecting portion of the male member, in particular for greater ease of assembly of the hinge.
The present invention also relates to a box having a bottom and a cover assembled to the bottom to be able to pivot with reference to the latter, the box comprising at least two hinges meeting all or part of the characteristics which have just been stated, including each has one of its male and female members engaged in a suitable bore formed in a first element from the bottom and the cover, the other of its male and female members being engaged in a suitable bore formed in the other element the bottom and the cover.
Preferably, at least one of the elements from the bottom and the cover can be at least partially made of wood.

When assembled, nothing seems to distinguish the hinge 1 according to the present invention from that of the prior art visible in FIG. 1.
However, an examination of FIG. 3, showing the hinge 1 in an exploded perspective view, allows to appreciate the particular features of the present invention.
The hinge 1 comprises a male member 2 and a female member 4 assembled by means of a rod 6 so as to be able to pivot relative to one another.
For this purpose, the male member 2 has an elongated main portion 8 and of generally cylindrical shape so as to be able to be engaged in a suitable bore made in a first body (not shown) intended to carry the hinge 1. The main portion 8 carries a clamping device 10 intended to cooperate with the first body to ensure the maintenance of the main portion 8. By way of nonlimiting illustration, the clamping device 10 may include a seal 12, elastic and compressible, associated with a screw clamp 14 for adjusting the compression level of the seal 12 to control how far it protrudes from the cylindrical shell of the main portion 8 to cooperate with the internal wall of the bore in which the male member 2 is introduced .
Similarly, the female member 4 has an elongated main portion 18 and of generally cylindrical shape in order to be able to be engaged in a suitable bore made in a second body (not shown) intended to be pivotally assembled on the first body . The main portion 18 carries a clamping device 20 intended to cooperate

By way of nonlimiting illustration, the tightening device 20 may include a seal 22, elastic and compressible, associated with a tightening screw 24 making it possible to adjust the compression level of the seal 22 to control the extent to which it protrudes from the cylindrical envelope of the main portion 18 to cooperate with the internal wall of the bore in which the female member 4 is introduced.
Furthermore, the male member 2 has a connecting portion 30 arranged in the extension of the main portion 8 by being centered. The free end of the connecting portion 30 is rounded to allow the rotation of the male member 2 with reference to the female member 4 when these two members are assembled together. The connecting portion 30 has a hole 32, defining a direction substantially perpendicular to the main portion 8, and adapted to cooperate with the rod 6 for assembling the two members 2 and 4.
For its part, the female member 4 has two connecting portions 34 adjacent and having a spacing between them slightly greater than the width of the connecting portion 30 of the male member 2, so that the latter can be inserted with a slight clearance between the connecting portions 34 of the female member 4. Each of the two connecting portions 34 has a hole 36, the two holes 36 defining a direction substantially perpendicular to the main portion 18. [0030] Thus , when the two members 2 and 4 are assembled by means of the rod 6, they can pivot one relative to the other along an axis of rotation defined by the directions of the holes 32 and 36.
According to the present preferred embodiment of the present invention, a machining 40 of generally annular shape is carried out on each side of the connecting portion 30 of the male member 2, while being centered on the hole 32.
Each machining 40 defines a reservoir for applying a grease, preferably fomblain, in a nonlimiting illustration.
A washer 42 is then disposed opposite each machining 40 to play the role of a cover for retaining the fat inside the machining 40. Each washer 42 also provides the interface between the male members 2 and female 4 when they are assembled to one another and they pivot, being positioned between, on the one hand, the connecting portion 30 of the male member and, on the other hand, the 'one of the connecting portions 34 of the female member 4.
Several parameters influence the way in which the hinge 1 will function, in particular its smooth operation. In particular, it will be noted that the dimensions of the various components involved play a role, more precisely the relationship between, on the one hand, the clearance provided between the connecting portion 30 of the male member 2 and the connecting portions 34 of the 'female member 4 and, on the other hand, the thickness of the washers 42. The depth of the machining 40 has an impact on the amount of grease which can be stored in the corresponding tank and the thickness of the grease also influences the way the hinge works. Of course, different choices of metals or metal alloys are possible both for the bonding portions and for the washers and the skilled person will not encounter any particular difficulty in choosing these materials according to his own needs. Finally, it will be noted that the bolting force applied to the rod 6 during its manufacture also has an impact on the operation of the hinge 1, as well as the relative diameters of the holes 32, 36 and of the rod 6.
The hinge 1 which has just been described can advantageously be used to ensure the assembly of the two parts of a box, typically a bottom and a cover, so that the cover can pivot on the bottom to give access to the inside of the box or close it.
Those skilled in the art will not encounter any particular difficulty in adapting the present teaching according to his own needs and in particular defining how many hinges he will have to use for a given box, according to the dimensions of the hinge which he will have and dimensions of the cover to be supported. The mounting of the hinges in the parts of the box is conventional, the main portions being engaged in bores made beforehand in the parts of the box, in suitable locations. When necessary, the clamping devices are then actuated to adjust the force with which the main portions are retained in the bores.
In particular, it will be noted that the hinge according to the present invention is suitable for the production of boxes intended for the high-end segment, such as for example cases for pieces of jewelry, fine jewelry or timepieces in the high-end segment , whose constituent parts are typically at least partially made of wood. Thus, such a cover will be better retained by the hinges according to the invention than with the hinges of the prior art if a user releases the cover from a position corresponding to a large opening.
Thus, the construction and the mode of operation of the hinge according to the present invention allow in particular the manufacturer of boxes to adjust the way in which the boxes he manufactures close, to give the user a great impression. quality, while maintaining space and a level of discretion identical to that of conventional hinges.
The above description attempts to describe a particular embodiment by way of nonlimiting illustration and, the invention is not limited to the implementation of certain particular characteristics which have just been described, such as, for example, the precisely illustrated and described shape of the various components of the hinge, in particular of the main portions of the male and female members, of the connection portions or of the clamping devices. Thus, for example, it is possible to provide machining on the female organ, or even to arrange machining on the two organs, without departing from the scope of the present invention.

1. Hinge (1) comprising
a male member (2) having a substantially elongated main portion (8) and a metal connection portion (30) in which a hole (32) is formed defining a direction substantially perpendicular to said main portion (8),
- a female member (4) having a substantially elongated main portion (18) and two adjacent and metallic connecting portions (34) in which holes (36) are formed oriented in the same direction substantially perpendicular to said main portion (18) , said male (2) and female (4) members being made integral with one another by means of a rod (6) housed through their respective holes, to define an axis of rotation with reference to which said male (2) and female (4) members are able to pivot relative to each other, said connecting portion (8) of said male member (2) being positioned between said two connecting portions (34) of said member female (4), characterized in that said male member (2) comprises two machining operations (40) in its connecting portion (8), each of which is located opposite one of said connecting portions (34) of said female member (4), or in that said female member (4) comprises two machining operations (40) each of which is carried out in one of said connecting portions (34), opposite said connecting portion (30) of said male member (2), each of said machining operations (40) defining a housing for a metal washer (42) providing the interface between said male (2) and female (4) members.

2. Hinge (1) according to claim 1, characterized in that each of said machining operations (40) further defines a reservoir at least partially filled with grease.
